Museum of the salt pansThe museum of the salt pans is located on the road to Loix, at the place called "Prise de la Lasse". The museum helps to understand the operation of the marshes through an exhibition and a model. The guided tour of a salt marsh allows to observe its wildlife and flora. Maison du MagayantThe "Maison du Magayant" is located in the municipality of Sainte-Marie-de-Ré, along Montamer beach at La Noue. It presents exhibits on the fish locks and on the island's foreshore. Guided tours are arranged by appointment. Ernest Cognacq MuseumAt Saint-Martin-de-Ré, the Ernest Cognacq museum is housed in the "Hôtel de Clerjotte". This building of the fifteenth century is a historical monument. In the gardens of the museum, a statue of George Washington recalls that Nicolas Martiau, an ancester of the first president of the United States of America, was an inhabitant of the island. The museum presents an exhibition that reveals the life aboard boats in the eighteenth century. Maison du PlatinIn La Flotte-en-Ré, the "Maison du Platin" presents the traditions of the Island of Re in the early twentieth century. This era is evoked by clothes, furnitures, model ships and other objects. From the top floor where temporary exhibitions are presented, there is a nice view over the bay of La Flotte-en-Ré. |
